Roundabout

Store Page:
PlayStation 4

Total play time:
~3 hours

My thoughts:

The FMVs won me over. I had to play this. And they delivered.

The gameplay is tough but fair. I did just enough to beat the games (credits roll), and I only completed about 26% of the game. If you choose to do all the additional time trails and side missions this game's difficulty ramps up nicely (as it should!).

Rating:
4/5 stars.

Final Fantasy XIII

Store Page:
PlayStation 3

Total play time:
50 hours

My thoughts:

Intro:
Wow, this game was pretty bad. Should've listened to the hype.

Graphics:
Graphically very nice game, and the cut-scenes are fun! IMO, still looks great in 2018.

Sound/Music:
I love the main theme, but overall just okay.

Gameplay:
Game does a good job of never letting you get too overpowered, which starts as a positive, but no matter how much time you throw at it, that positive quickly turns into a frustrating negative.

The games linearity isn't a huge minus, but there are some story lines (Sazh and Vanille) that drag on for far too long. Some whiny characters FINALLY get less whiny. And once you get to the "open world" part of the game, boy oh boy, temper those expectations, because wow, does it get boring.

Story:
I liked Lightning as a main character, she was great!

Overall the story is a mess. WHY IS THERE NEVER A PLAN?! The characters have this inertia and rarely ever stop and think.

Outro:
This isn't Xenoblade Chronicles 2 bad, though, and it's the worst of the modern (post-FF7) Final Fantasy games I've played.

Rating:
2/5 stars.

God of War

Store Page:
PlayStation 4

Total play time:
~30 hours

My thoughts:
This game has one of the best stories ever produced for a video game. Flat out. The script was fantastic, the actors were great, wow!

This game needed half the amount of puzzles, and 25% less fighting.

Don't let the ending hype cloud the fact that the moments on the boat are the best thing about this game.

Rating:
4/5 stars.

My thoughts:
Unfortunately never finished it on the PS2, and TZA was a great excuse to revisit. Loved the new additions. Graphics are great. Last chunk of the game I would say is weak. It felt rushed.

New Direction

Hello long time readers!

I apologize for the absence, but my gaming hobby has gone a new direction!

In the spring of 2017 I had an opportunity to play Phantasy Star IV on Steam. Then in the summer of 2017, I obtained a PlayStation 4 with Final Fantasy XI: The Zodiac Age and vowed not to give up on it like I did the original PS2 release.

With these two titles I told myself, I wouldn't start a game with the intent of finishing it, so... here we go!
